Maintenance And Use Of Different Types Of Fan Coil Units
Introduction
Different types of fan coil units have different characteristics in appearance, but they are similar in internal structure and function.
Details
  1. Filter Cleaning: Regularly clean the air outlet filter of the fan coil unit to prevent dust accumulation, which can reduce airflow and affect air quality. It is recommended to clean it once a month.

  2. Water Tray Cleaning: Clean the water tray of the fan coil unit every six months to prevent dust accumulation.  If the drain outlet is blocked, it can lead to water overflow and ceiling damage.

  3. Surface Cooler Cleaning: The surface cooler should be cleaned at least once a year to maintain efficient heat transfer and temperature control. A hard brush can be used to clean the fins, followed by a vacuum cleaner.

Control Methods for Fan Coil Units:

  1. Thermostat and Electric Valve: A thermostat is used to set the desired temperature, and it compares it with the room temperature. An electric valve is controlled to maintain the desired temperature.

  2. Four-Pipe Fan Coil: The thermostat can control both cooling and heating functions, and it may include features like sleep mode and timer settings. Electric valves regulate the hot and cold water flow to provide comfort and energy efficiency.

  3. Three-Speed Switch Control: This control method allows users to adjust the fan speed by setting the thermostat to different levels. It is a simple and energy-efficient control method.

Service Life of Fan Coil Units:

The service life of a fan coil unit typically ranges from 10 to 20 years. Central air conditioning fan coil units tend to have a longer service life compared to ordinary split air conditioners, making them a cost-effective choice for long-term climate control needs.

Fan Coil Unit Duct Insulation:

Fan coil units need insulation to reduce energy loss and improve efficiency. Two common insulation materials are mentioned:

  • Polyurethane Foam Insulation: Used for thermal insulation of directly buried pipe sections, it enhances energy efficiency and reduces cooling or heating loss.

  • Advanced Rubber and Plastic Insulation: This material is an ideal thermal insulation material with a good thermal insulation effect. It is thin, easy to install, and environmentally friendly, making it suitable for insulating secondary refrigerant pipes and condensate water pipes in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Valves and Switches:

Each fan coil unit should be equipped with a room temperature controller and an electric two-way valve. The electric two-way valve's actuator should be installed above the valve body and oriented correctly to prevent issues. Room temperature controllers are typically installed in guest rooms, and they may be interlocked with room cards to control power supply and heating/cooling. In addition, valves, flow meters, solenoid valves, and gate valves may be installed for the inlet and outlet water of the fan coil unit to facilitate maintenance and control temperature, as well as to isolate circuits in case of a pipe burst. Proper valve installation is crucial for system performance and safety.
